Just a note for those looking at newegg's sale on Pentium D 820 and 830 CPUs:

Unfortunately, the nForce4 SLI Intel Edition doesn't work properly with Intel's most affordable dual-core processors, the Pentium D 820 and 830. The Pentium D 820 and 830 will run in nForce4 SLI Intel Edition boards, but only in single-core mode, which is a waste.

To get actual dual core functionality, you need the $1000 extreme edition 840, which is what Tomshardware used in their recent benchmark. The $250 and $350 Pentium D 820 and 830 will run singlecore only.

I think this is incorrect. I read that report a while ago and it (the TechReport issue) states that only the 820 isn't fully supported (yet). There was no mention of the 830. Also, there is an 840 and an 840 Extreme edition. Both run at 3.2Ghz, with the non-extreme costing about half as much as the extreme ($1,000 vs. $550ish). The bottom line is, nVidia's chipsets will recognize both cores in both the 830 and the 840 (non-extreme).

I'm about to purchase that exact board w/ the 840 tomorrow so YOU KNOW I got real nervous when I read what you posted! (Good lookin out). Check this out ...

P5ND2 works yes but it fails on Hyperthreading and dual core functionality. It shows up to the OS as a single core single threaded CPU. (840EE/830) The 840EE functions as single core only.

The motherboard performs poorly due to very poor bandwidth and lack of 1:1.

The Hypertransport bus does not use ratios like Intel based chipsets.

SLI does work but its not worth the troubles the board has with dual core processors.
