Touch screen performance through thick glass?

I'd like to use a touch screen monitor behind a sheet of glass 1/4". How much performance loss can I expect or are they all adjustable? Are some better than others?

I'm guessing that infrared and optical imaging would have the most trouble with having a glass layer added, especially since the bezel depth to allow the IR/optical sensors around the edges would cause an air gap.
