What I mean is...

COMP1: Artic Silver 5 TIM
COMP2: AMD Retail Paste

If I move the proc in comp1 to comp2, can I just leave the Artic5 paste on it even though the HSF in comp2 has the residue from stock paste on it?

I wouldn't do it, maybe just my opinion cuz I've never tried it. I'd clean off the old with Iso alchohol and re-apply new, even if it was just cheapo stuff from Radio Shack

It will not work well, especially if they are 2 different ages & different make-ups, besides it is recommended to clean the HSF & Processor when changing either & its only a 2 minute job with tim remover...
