I was curious if anyone could tell me the expected overclock potential on each of these three processors? (I know mileage may vary, just looking for average estimate.

Also, would anyone suggest getting the Opteron 144 to overclock? Note that this system is being used for gaming. Using the 144 was not something I had thought of until somone mentioned it as an option recently. Please let me know what you think.

The opteron would be held back by it's starting point, memory and mobo.
For the other two, too much depends on who.
For someone who asks, without thinking, 10% is good. For me 20% is okay. For mozz or scotchen or wusy, they wouldn't even start till 30%.

I have a 3500. I've found it's maximum stable overclock in all apps including all games I've played to be 2530. Occasionally I can go to 2570 on some games. I't will overclock to 2620 and boot up but some apps go corrupt. anythingthing above 2630 or higher and windows usually wont boot. This is with an Xp-90 heatsink and cpu averaging 43c. I like the chip but was thinking about upgrading to either a 4000 or a 3800-X2 but I'm a little concerened about the performace loss in gaming with the x2. Could anyone comment on this? Especially if you may have upgraded from a 3500.

Oh, I have the Clawhammer core. This is important, as my core had a specific stepping noted for higher overclocking ability on some other site.

HEs probably talking about the recent Batch of Opterons that actually had the same core as one of the expensive AMDs. I think they were all bought up. I remember something like you could get a $700 cpu for $200. Ill try to find the article.

This is it,

In case you havent heard about those new socket 939 opteron miracle chips and the hype that built up around them during the last days here is a short description of the situation:

Amd recently released their 939 opterons wich work in any 939 desktop mainboard. It turned out that the first batch of those chips are using the same cpu dies as FX-57 chips!
But they only cost around 200$ :D
