Is there any way to use a p4 processor with an 800 mhz fsb on a mainboard that has a 533 mhz fsb? I'm running an older abit be-6 (supporting 400/544 fsb) and want to go to a 3 ghz p4, and the price diff. between the two cpu's is nearly $100. Is this just wishful thinking on my part? Any info is gratly appreciated....
The prescott chips will kill your board. Too much current required. While one of the P4c chips might boot, without OCing it will only run @ 2/3s rated speed. ( a 3ghz chip would run @ 2ghz). Few people have been able to OC a 533 board to 800.
