I few questions for all you tech heads out there.
Are P3 Chips available in both Slot 1 and FC-PGA at all speeds. If not, what is the highest speed Slot 1 available.
Also is the FC-PGA for P3 the same as the one that is used for Celeron. i.e. can I directly swap a Celeron from my Socket 370 system for a FC-PGA P3.
You can change from a Celeron to a P3 only if the motherboard chipset supports it, what speed is your Celeron CPU and what chipset is it using. Your motherboard needs to use 1.65 volts for a P3.
( but since it's not out anymore, I guessthe fastest PIII is around 800 mhz like someone else said. If you want to upgrade your pc and you have a slot-1 mobo, for god's sake, please go out and get a sloket adaptor!!! This way you'll have more choice!)
P3's are available in Slot 1 all the way up to the Gig. Depending on your motherboard, any P3 FC-PGA should work as a replacement. Check with your motherboard manufacturer first to be sure.
My m/b will support it. It is a Gigabyte BX2000 so it will run 100mhz fine and 133 non officialy. I was just curious as to whether I could get the chip as slot one but like someone in this thread said I would be better off with a slocket converter so I can have an option with the chip.
Thanks for the advice. I had myself stuck on the idea of getting a Slot 1 chip just because I have a Slot 1 mobo. Guess it makes more sense to get a slocket so I have an option.
Does it really matter how fast a slot 1 goes in cpu range? they have FC-PGA to slot 1 converters ( $10-25 bux )...Pick one of those puppies up and u can get either.
