hot cpu

Hello

I own a Pentium III 550 cpu with an Abit BE II motherboard. I have a large heatsink and dual fan to cool my cpu. It cost 30 bucks. This is the second fan I have tried.

My problem is that my motherboard and every other diag that I have run tells me my cpu is running between 88C and 97C.
I am wondering if this is even possible or is my motherboard telling me lies. I think it gets the temp from the cpu itself but i am unsure. COuld someone please help me with this problem. The system has locked up before but it is rare.

Thanks in advance.

Well, since the thermal max for the Pentium III is 70C, I would believe that the board is not giving you the right number. Either that, or the temperature is in degrees Fahrenheit instead of Celsius.

My K6 III with an Alpha runs around 37C (98F)
