Good System for FileServer?

Hi; I'm about to distribute a couple Access applications and need a place to put the databases... I'm using Jet, so the 'server' just needs to share some files over a network.

Our company also needs a central location for people to put files they want to share/have backed up for them.

Any reccommendations on what kind've system to go with?

I was thinking something along the lines of:

BX motherboard w/cheap PII Processor, 256k ram ($300)
Promise IDE Raid Card ($100)
2 x IBM 75gxp harddrives ($200)

Any input?

Whats a cheap, fast backup solution?

Thanks!

If you are going to go the low road on the Mobo and processor, why not Duron? AMD MoBo stability is just as good as Intel platforms today. There is no advantage for an *ntel based system at this price... just less performance.

If you want a stable platform then get it running Win2k so won't need to reboot the thing. That will require PII 400Mhz + or equivilent processor with 128-256Mb RAM to run properly. Any good reliable chipset should do, BX is cool, maybe via..just not crap from sis, ali
