Even if piracy on consoles gets as bad as piracy on PC I doubt we are gonna see PC supported the way it used to be by 3rd party developers. I hope I'm wrong.

Actually that may make the PC the main focus for releasing games. Atleast with the PC you can protect each game with updated protections the consoles lack this ability. Even if this holds off the crackers for two weeks it means more people won't be patient enough for a pirated release and go buy it.

However if this ever happens and if it holds no effect then this will debunk the biggest excuse to leave the PC and focus on consoles. Which would strangely make every defender of piracy right...

There are chipless mods for very console out there they have been around as long as the machine was released.

You just have to know where to look and yes piracy on consoles are more than pc's , i fix consoles every 2nd console that is brought into my shop is modded and i live in a small city in ne ontario.

I also repair pc's 1 out of 100 machines i clean spyware have pirated software on it , i clean of average min of 4 machines a day.

Not really. consoles like PSP can easily release a game that requires you to download a firmware upgrade or they can also pkg the new firmware onto the DVD forcing you to update before you are allowed to play the latest games. There's always ways around these things.

I don't think that people that know how to pirate software would need you to check their PC for spyware..

Consoles are easier to pirate than PCs are. Well mainly due to the fact that the smart money is on a prgram like Steam (Steam being the best one out) which is not yet available for consoles.

And Consoles will probably not get it short of becoming a PC.

But thats what I love about the Dreamcast. No modding needed and still plays burnt backup games or those really hard to find ones.

I had a modded wii some time ago, all my friends have got modded wii's and xbox 360's, there are like 20 pirated games on my pc, there were 30 on my wii, and in my opinion the fuss about too much piracy of pc games is bullshit coz my friends download an average of 30 games/year for their consoles. Note: the wii sucks so much that I sold it even while I could download and burn games for free all I want.

P.S.
dreamcast kicks ass

Pirated Wii games ? I have a chipped Wii and like 20 burned games but at the same time I also own at least 20 retail copies. Pirates do steal games but at the same time pirates are also gamers and and tend to buy allot of games too. It is confusing why would some one who could download for free, buy something ? I can answer that. I download games because I want to try out something I may or may not like if I like it enough I buy a copy. If its just crap I toss it in the trash or keep it to torture other people with its craptitude... To be honest I probably have bought more Wii games because I downloaded them and gave games a try that I never would have otherwise. Even rental fee's can leave me turned off.

Some games I just buy as its just known they will be good, almost anything by Valve or Blizzard I buy, preferably on release day!

Bah... more BS about Piracy... Piracy is basically FREE ADVERTISING for the gaming industry. Some small, obscure game dev gets his game eaten up in the beginnings and it seems like all hell is going to break lose, but in reality he's started his own little fan-base and pretty soon future release teams are going to be lead by this guy/gal etc... It's been proven that piracy has increased sales through massive and rapid exposure. Do people not google anything anymore?

Yeah piracy is "illegal," but how is bait'n switching with false advertising any more "moral" or "ethical?" They show you the BEST scenes, BEST frame rates, with the most optimal hardware and in a very controlled setting. Why? To ENTICE you to drop a big buck, only to beat the game in meager hours of play and then you're left with a drink coaster. Many of these games are 1 play wonders and thus garbage. WE risk full financial expenditure for what? The same situation killed the music store... once people finally got what they wanted (aside from just FREE EVERYTHING etc.) CHOICE! "Hrmm wtf am I paying increasing prices for this CD, which has maybe 3 hot tracks out of 15?!" No f'ing way am I going to fund someone's hot new pearlescent orange Lamborghini on dubs, while they f'ing mock me as they are too busy to sign an autograph blah blah, neither do I care to make the RIAA/MPAA (marketing agencies) execs RICH from bilking hard "working" (performing) artists for pennies on the dollar? Bah if I'm going to drop cash for a game and or artist, then WTF don't the ARTIST/Devs, who make the damn game get paid the LOIN'S share? Bah this rant is futile... |-|8erz!

I have Modd'ed all my Friend's 360's Xbox PS etc... while I personally own all the games I play I think if the games weren't so darn spendy people wouldn't pirate nearly as much, I have seen my kid drop 50 bucks (he only gets 10 bucks a week for doing his chores)on a game only to beat it or be bored with it in less then eight hours. maybe someone should invent a console where for 2.99 you get a week play on a game.
