In the same place as you select "Show hidden files" try de-selecting the option "Hide protected operating system files." It will give you a warning, just ignore it. Unlikely to work but worth a shot as it's easy to do.

Out of interest, how do you know for certain the files are actually on there? Is it possible they were deleted by someone else or the initial file transfer failed?

Hi

It is likely the usb pen drive has died or the files have been deleted

There is useful software to test the drive for physical damage or fake firmware.
H2TestW
It writes specially coded 1GB files to any disk then reads them back. This detects flash memory / usb drives with fake logic which makes size appear to be larger than actually available (eg 8GB usb pen drive pretends to be 32 GB and any data over 8GB disappears for ever)
BUT it will destroy any deleted files on usb drive.

Try some undelete / recovery software first

TestDisk + PhotoRec suite or Recuva are free and well regarded
