My laptop recently stopped working, like 10 minutes ago. Ok, right before it happen, I was on the internet, with firefox open, with two vidoes buffering, and like 3 other normal tabs open in the one window. And I was on a page in the middle of writing a comment on a site, and then it suddenly froze. My internet had been acting weird all, so I thought it was just a little lag. But when I couldn't move the pointer either. I let it sit there, for a bit. Tried ctrl alt delete, nothing worked. So I decided to reset by taking out the battery, and restart it. I did. And now the laptop, doesn't do anything. When I turn it on, the screen stays black, all the lights turn on normally, dvd drive spins, and fans turn on, just no screen activity. I plugged it up to a monitor to see if that would work, it didn't. Is there anything else I can do to see whats wrong with it?
Oh yea, it's running Xp pro, is about 3 years old, but it ran great nothing weird with it before this. It's an IBM too.
I haven't installed anything recently either.
As a general rule, the best way to get out of a lockup when Ctrl Alt Del doesn't work is to press the Power button for long enough that it closes the system.
In the present situation, disconnect the power supply and leave the battery out for say an hour. With the battery still out and no power supply, press the power button.
Reconnect battery/power supply and try to restart. If it appears successful press F8 before Windows starts to throw you into Safe Mode (that may sort out any registry issues) and -- once it's running -- close Windows normally and restart the computer normally.
