Windows Kinect

I saw that Microsoft has a student deal that the Windows Kinect is $150, making it the same price as the regular one. So, I was wondering if anyone knows if the Windows version also works with the Xbox 360? The only differences that I see are that the windows one has a slightly different cord, the info and power are split, and that it has something called near mode, alowing far closer tracking abilities.

I talked to A Microsoft store employee who said that they do not interface, I do not know why though.
