These guys are crazy. Ironically some of the same things that anger them are some of the same things that anger Christians over here. We just don't go around crashing planes into buildings over it. They call Americans “devils” because of how decadent and destructive we are as a nation. It's quite ironic that in a lot of ways Biblical Christians abhor many of the very same things in our society that they do. It is even more ironic that many who are primarily given to decadence, the ones who primarily set the bad example for the rest of the world are also the ones who seem to blame Christians for the problems we have with the muslim world. I speak of such things as the killing of unborn children, the homosexual movement, failure to punish violent criminals effectively, sexually explicit Hollywood, lack of respect and appreciation for others and for the blessings they have in this Country, lack of family values, anti-Americanism, and on and on. With the exception of anti-Americanism these are the very same things the muslims hate about us.
The muslim word hates us because of how decadent we are. They fear this decadence like a disease, which indeed it is. Yet the “left wingers” seem to think that if everyone “does what is right in their own sight” everything will be ok. I find this to be another glaring example of the flaws of humanist philosophies that place man at the center.
*Note-I’m not trying to start yet another discussion of whether the war in Iraq is right or wrong, or whether or not we should be over there. I’m going more in the direction of pointing out how poorly we reason things out in today’s society. We have become like Rome. We have so many blessings in this country it seems people at large must think there is nothing left to do to entertain our meager minds and soul-less characters than to tear our very society down.

There is very little that can be done to make the world right by sitting in front of a computer screen and bloging at THGC. That goes for all of us here. You should strive not to hate anyone for what happens here. Its only going to make you hurt inside because the frustration can only build and in the end it isn't worth your time to be that concerned over statements made here in a pseudo-vacuum.
Hopefully, in our real lives we strive to share whatever moral princples or spiritual values we beleive to make our small circle of influence a better place. Joining with others of like mind yet still having dialog with those who see things differently.
I would think that many arabs do a similar thing. I would also put forth that on an average day not a single thought about America is considered in most of the arab world. They all have lives that must go on. They must live.
In America we are a show business culture. Everything is entertainment, from news broadcasts to Sunday sermons. We are exposed to so much narrative and so many images of events out of our circle of influence that we become numb to it. Our short attention span for what many consider important issues is testament to that numbness.
Most of us are not decadent (even Wingy I bet). We live rather normal lives, make a living and go about our business (except for the relative few soldiers involved in life threatening conflict overseas - nothong "normal" about that). Most Muslims or Arabs do the same (except for the relaitve few traversing rubble - that used to be buildings in the streets, trying to stay away from trouble be it insurgent or US forces).
In the end its a battle of power among those (tribes) wielding the weapons. The rest of us are just spectators for the most part. The major difference being that Americans have a chance to provide influence via "the vote" (although the real influence is very questionable) while the average arab has almost no chance to be involved in any decision.

Well, I am quite amazed I am meeting so many older people like you, with conservative values, that have accepted the diversity of others around you. You prolly know what I am talking about, and the prove is there, because you respect me and enjoy my presence despite who I am.

First of all, thank you.
IMO, a true Christian loves all people (that doesn't mean that they don't get perturbed at some people occasionally, we're human), It doesn't mean that we necessarily agree with other's life styles nor should it prevent us from saying so in a respectful way. Above all we should lead others to Christ and IMO one of the best ways to do that is through the example I try to set.
This exact thing was in our last Sunday's Bible lesson. The lesson was concerning Lot and God's warning to him to flee before God destroyed the city of Sodom. (see Genesis 19:12-14) In our lesson guide the author brought this very subject up. I quote:
"Believers always must treat people, including homosexuals, with respect and dignity. We must love everyone, even people who say that homosexuality, abortion, sexual activity outside of marriage, and other sinful actions and lifestyles are neither harmful or wrong. In fact, we must love them to such a degree that we are compelled to lovingly warn them about sin and it's destructive consequences."
So you see, although I don't agree with your choice of lifestyle, I should and do still respect you.
(and, yes even you DH)
Please don't everyone get all upset thinking that Russ is starting yet another religious rant. I just wanted Eden to understand me and this is the exact answer to his curiosity.

That is good to know man, I appreciate such answer. You're a true model of what Christians should be seen as. Sorry to put you on the spot or making you feel noticed and as important as that, but I do believe in what I say and you should definitely take that as good stuff. You got an 18 year old giving you props, and lord knows, you must be like 30-40 years older than I?
I should mention some things in Christianity are stuff I wish were more universal. Topics that usually push buttons and split people quite evenly in fact. Such as abortion. But I try not to bring too much of those here, because, well, it often becomes heated and for the worse. These days I'm too easily inflammable. One wrong answer and I'll start getting impatient with the opinions that bother me. It's not the me of years ago, I'll say this. I dunno why, but I'm trying to break through it, as I am one of the biggest advocates of reason.
And I too love DH. In fact, I love DH's ass. I also love the weird sausage that gets in everytime he bends and pushes it behind him.

I've learned it really doesn't make any difference what man thinks. Flame all you want. Interesting how almost nothing said addresses the initial comments I made. I've noticed while the regular forum section is full of helpful people this "other" section has a few flaws.
Basically there are the same 3 or 4 people who shall remain nameless who have nothing better to do with their lives than cruise the forum and respond to each and every topic in "other" with some pointless and useless dribble.
You guys spend your days sticking your fingers up each other’s butts and taking a sniff.
Here's a typical conversation in progress:
Tweedledum: fire, fire yuk yuk..your momma..you suck....
Tweedledee: weee let's ride the rainbow....oh I like how the poop on my finger smells..I think it makes me high....
Robot 1a2z: ohhhhhhh, let me smell......sniffffff...ahhhhhh...ohhhh--let's taste the rainbow...
Random bot 3: I have no idea what anyone is talking about and I haven't read the post but lets jump on the bandwagon on page 5 so I can be included.......
Bandwagon bot 6a: yea, what he said.......
Pathetic--Just a bunch of nasty cowards piling on, nothing more.
Nice of you to admit that about yourself.
I'm the good time that was had by all
I have to say four things that you may critique to your hearts content:
1. Your obsertvations about all these threads somehow degrading or straying from the original topic is a universal trait here in "OTHER"
2. You seem to have been around long enough to know that the particular dialog you describe is expected here in the "OTHER"
3. After looking back on the postings here I have to say that you were the root cause of the initial diversion away from your initial topic. If you hadn't have reacted so "violently" and quickly to the phrase "God hates you" I think there may have been reason for some to focus on your point.
4. You might consider asking yourself WWJD on occasion. Just a suggestion since I beleive we should all (at least those who consider christianity a worthwhile lifestyle) do this more often.
Well stated. Brief and to the point.

Don't waste your breath on him. Keep your rational thoughts to people who may accept them.
He has a track record of thinking of himself highly, and not even realizing the hypocrisy of his own words and lifestyle. He's a shame to all Christians, portraying the side that causes so much anti-religious sentiment in the first place.
