I've just bought a Peak Radeon x800 Pro card, but can't get it to work
correctly in my PC.

My computer is a Dell Dimension 8250 - fitted with a 3.06 GHz Pentium 4, 1
GByte of RDRAM on an Intel 850E chipset. I've previously used an Ati Radeon
9700 Pro card without any problems, and in fact have put it back and am
using it to type this.

My problem is that after installing the X800 card the machine won't boot
properly - I can see the BIOS sign in messages, so I know that the card is
installed correctly. However, after the BIOS the machine just freezes - as
if the hard disk can't be accessed to start the boot up into Windows.

a. I've checked in the BIOS screen, and the machine correctly identifies the
types of both hard disks fitted - but for some reason won't read from them.

b. I've tried unplugging the power supply leads from both DVD drives
(suspecting that the card may have overloaded the power supply) - but it
made no difference. I've also tried booting from the Windows CD to attempt a
repair install - but that doesn't work either, the machine still freezes at
the end of the BIOS sequence.

c. I also tried starting up the hard disk diagnostics from the BIOS - but
again it froze at that point.

Any ideas how to fix this?
