Are you sure the monk didn't just dark-berferk? When a creature who
can't see in the dark panics and has no place to run to (because the
room or tunnel is filled with monsters, say), it'll probably eventually
berferk and try to escape by unwittingly lashing out at anything and
everything blocking its path, including you.

No, i was in the wilderness on the road going to CoC.... So there was plenty
of space.

Actually, there are no such monsters in ADOM - chaos monks. However, a
pilgrimages of chaos monks consist of chaos brothers and sisters.
