Can anyone quantify the results of alignment changes on shop prices?
I found a ring shop on PC1 today. I was a lawful hurthling. I became
neutral and prices doubled! I had assumed that by changing my alignment to
be closer to the shopkeeper (he's a gnome) prices would, if anything, go
DOWN!
My appearance/charisma didn't change between the two visits. The
guidebook makes no mention of alignment or level changing prices. Any
thoughts? Maybe I missed something else that could have changed this?

I'm quite sure that price depends upon exp. level.

Hmm... that would be news to me.

Frobnoid, maybe the shop had restocked in the meantime? Restocking has a
drastic effect on shop prices.

I had neither purchased, nor moved anything in the shop. A restock is
possible, but would the addition of items to the shop double the prices of
the original items in there?

I've seen this happen several times previously with random shops in the
early game, so its not an isolated incident. I didn't haggle with him, and
I'm not playing a merchant or take any shop price talents... just to rule
out the obvious (although the latter two would make prices go down, not
up). I also don't believe my doomed/cursed/lucky/FS status changed either.

I am not sure if a single restock will. Two restocks might, easily.

In my experience, if you don't move anything in the shop, then restocks
occur less frequently, but they do occur. You can check if one has
occurred by testing if there is any location in the shop that contains
more than one item. If yes, then a restock has taken place at some time.

In that case, there was definitely a restock. Is there an expectation
that prices will increase continuously with each restock?

Yes, I think so. There might be a cap, but I haven't noticed one in
normal play.
