YAVP (UCG) : Infinite wishes too easy?

Hmm. It seems to me at least, that getting infinite wishes is now
extremely easy in v1.1.1. Every wizard getting TotRR can do it with a
minimum of fuss. Now:

The two book casting talents bring your wish cost down to 2250 from
casting from the book. A level 50 wizard with 50 mana has around
1200sp.

All you need from this point is to do this: use the mana orb to boost
your mana, until you are one corruption from dying. Use all your SoCR.
repeat. Use the unicorn quest. Get TotRR. You should now have 99 mana
and about 1700 sp. Coupled with a decent toughness score (can be gained
with the earth orb anyway) you can start casting wish on silvernight.
>From that point its dead easy, wish for scrolls, wish for water, wish
for power. The only minor problem i had was when my toughness dropped
to 1, but that was solved with the earth orb (leaving some 3 hp left
after casting. phew!)

I think that he was saying that he did, and it isn't a fatal amount of
corruption by any means. According to the guidebook, a PC can take
19000 points of corruption, and the orb only does 5000 points per use.
If the elemental gauntlets are worn, the corruption from the orb is
halved (according to a code diver), so the orb can be used ~7 times
before any removal is needed. Thats about 21 additional mana before
clearing it.

You cannot use the orb. It corrupts. *Heavily*.

Are the increases guaranteed, or do they suffer the typical decreasing
chance of success as the base skill increases?

100% guaranteed increases.

And as said above, the elemental gaunlets help alot, as does being sign
of the unicorn. It works out to be about 2.5 corruptions per usage. A
standard wizard will have about 40 mana by level 50. add TotRR (26?
mana) plus usage of the mana orb and its dead easy to get to 99 mana..
which is more than enough to cast wish from the book. The abuse of mana
from using your HP is negitiable.. and since you using the mana orb to
reboost your SP anyway, it doesn't matter if you lose a couple of mana
points.

If I remember correctly, there is a bug that makes the unicorn sign
actually worse in terms of gained corruption.

I think you are mixing it up with the alignment loss bug:

Unicorn starsign
Unicorn increases the amount of alignment one loses when lawful, instead
of decreases.
(taken from adombugs.100free.com)

Anyway there are several lvl50 class powers that reduce corruption
furthermore.
