Installing Win 98 SE on a Laptop?

Forum Windows 95/98/ME : General Discussion Installing Win 98 SE on a Laptop?

How do you do it? I'm assuming that you don't use a full install. Does it require a different (laptop) version of Win 98?

I'm talking about an old laptop here:
P2, 3Gb hard drive, not sure of the rest.

No. No need for a special laptop version (Such one doesn't even exists, I think). Just insert your CD, boot from it and proceed with the installation as you would on a desktop. The installation program makes the necessary provisions for installing on a laptop.

Cool, so next question;

How do I handle the boot disk issue if my diskette and CD-ROM drive 'share' (need to be swapped) the same bay?

I would like to fdisk and reformatt before reinstalling.

Thanks in advance

You install from the CD, and skip the 'create startup disk' procedure. Have you actually ever used that disk for anything?
If you really wan't the disk, I think it's possible to create it after windows has been installed, but I can't remember how.

To create a STARTUP DISK after the windows installation, hit your START button>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS>STARTUP DISK and go from there.

That appears to be gone in WXP. That's why I couldn't find it.

Sorry Hammerbot. After a while not using a certain OS, one tends to forget things. Be the same with me and someone asking about MAC. Hopefully our poster's happy. :lol:
