I bought a Retail 1 Gig Tbird which came with a cooling fan. Does anyone know if I'll need to buy a better heatsink/fan. Or is the one it came with good enough? Note: I don't plan to over clock.

Keep an eye on your temps, using the bios reading, and if they seem fine then dont worry. When the cooler spins its last rev, pull the power fast...you don't have much time. Personally I would buy a good fan and heatsink, and remove the worry from my head. Tom did a review recently...check it out.

there's a good chance it came with a taisol since i heard that amd uses these a lot in their retail boxed cpu's. if that is the case it will be fine. i have a t-bird 900@1000 with the basic model taisol and it works very well

AMD would never ship a crappy HSF with their CPU's- it's fine. But, if you want to overclock- I wouldn't use it. It's probably good for OCing up to 100mhz- but no more.
