Athlon Diagnostics?

Hi,

A friend of mine recently bought an Athlon 850Mhz on an Asus Mobo. The other day his Windows 98 installation suddenly started hanging. "Never Mind", he thought and decided to upgrade to Windows 2000. He re fdisked the drive and installed 2000 but it won't boot up. It goes through the blue line wandering across the screen then hangs.

I thought there must be a bootable diagnostics package that could check that the processor and system are functioning properly but I haven't been able to find one.

Does anyone know if there is such an animal or if they are aware of any other problems that could cause this.

I've never used it and it looks like you must have Windows installed. With that said, I pointed out the link to someone on these forums a week or two ago and that person really liked it.
