Spoily really, spoily

Sigh, Monday morning... time to start a new Character. After several
annoying attempts with High Elven Archers, Im onto Grey Elven Necromancers.
They have to have the easiest start out of any character Ive ever used. Id
have to go against the GB which I believe has a phrase pertaining to how
difficult it is to keep Necromancer alive.

Went to Teryino, got my quests and supplies, travelled to the SMC. Got
caught by a Roving Barbarian Group, on Coward, I get railed by the 1st arrow
down to 1 HP and nearly conceded defeat. Ran like hell and made it to
Holeinthewall. Saw Yergius, got my pickpocket skill and took out Shriek.
Took out the Bouncers and 'da boss' for my concentration boost. Found Slow
Monster, got to Yrrigs barely and Slow Monster allowed me to keep him at
bay. Yrrigs saving always gets me from C to N- for Healing so it helps.
Dived the puppy cave for more exp and loot. collected my Kranach reward and
dived the SMC. Rather easy and uneventful although a room of dark sages
proved difficult and rewarding with several +boosts to mana/pp type stats.

CoC proved fun. Training low level Spear skills, using a handful of useful
spells I got. Found a Blink dog which gave me teleport control. Found a
Gnoll/Hyena vault and a neutral altar. Crowning yielded me Fire Immunity and
Ring of Immunity. Waldenbrook yielded an extra book of Burning Hands, Book
of Teleport, SLB's and contained Robes of Resistance. Elder wanted a
skeleton slain, easy one. Animated Forest - I always go via the DH and any
death is due to a Dragon or Wyrm ALWAYS. Karmic variety usually nails me on
the way through but with the =oImmunity, I wasnt fearing them. A Dorn beast
threatened to spoil my day but Teleporting around it lead to successful
quest completion.

Ogre Cave was easy and gave a bit of an St boost. Cure Crucial Wounds proved
useful although I rarely needed it. The Dwarven Mystic gave me 2 !oExtra
Healing and 1 !oGA, all blessed (cheapskate!!!!). A Blessed Ring of
Regeneration proved to be useful as I climbed back up to get to the Arena.
Simple affair and the cash boost was welcomed by Yergius and Barnabas.
Climbing skills and Fire Bolt were my rewards for the gold pieces. Clearing
the Dwarven Graveyard top level was boring and yielded several +To bonuses
to make me even tougher.I held off clearing the lower level to pop over to
Darkforge. A random tension room gave me a Werewolf Lord and Ogre King in
addition to the exp off the single Steel Golem (YAFM after casting Acid Ball
on a non-hostile Steel Golem "The steel golem does not seem to be amused") I
found a Wand of Digging in the NDC so I decided to head back to the Dwarven
Graveyard.

Near to levelling (currently 16 by now) and at around 80 climbing skill. I
expected to level up and max my climbing for the Library. Griff proved a
pushover and his magical friend was easy. Bone Golem wasnt so easy but thats
because I ran out of learned Acid Ball and I didnt want to risk reading it.
After clearing that level, I nabbed the Sword of Nonnak for the Willpower
boost and resurfaced. I was frustrated that I hadnt levelled so I decided to
dig some "Great Treasure" graves. 2 Master Liches were a pain and hadnt
levelled me or gave up any useful items. Dug up my 3rd grave, Emperor Lich.
He was busy summoning weaklings as I fled. I returned after recharging PP in
the wildnerness. His minions fell fast and I peppered him with bolt spells
at a unseeable distance due to him giving up his position via magic missles.
He flung a bolt at me which hurt me for about 1/3rd of my HP, I threw out a
few more bolts as he loomed into view. He shrugged off another 2 Frost Bolts
(+24's) and then threw another bolt at me which reduced me to -27 HP. In
hindsight, when he started hurting me, I should have ran, healed then bashed
him again but I decided to stay and fight to my death.

He was strong. I was talking to one of my mates on MSN about how he was
doing, his stats at level 14 were as follows:

St:19 Le:28 Wi:23 Dx:19 To:17 Ch: 9 Ap:19 Ma:27 Pe:20

Powerful, Learned and Young.

Many spells in his repetoire including the much loved Burning Hands and
Remove Curse.

He could have went all the way with a bit more nuturing.

Not particularly stupid unless stubborn-ness counts.

Please read the entire post. I was crowned with Fire Immunity and I was
wearing the Ring of Immunity.

I dont believe there is a Magic Immunity in the game that covers whatever
that Emperor Lich threw at me.

Sounds like a death ray to me. DR resistance only helps partially, you
lose about half of your HP on one hit if you are resistant.

You should always try to kill ELs with undead slaying ammo, as you often
get clear shots from a 2 square range so that it can't cast spells on
you. I.e. don't kill all the minions first. :)

It wasnt a ray. It was some form of bolt which sliced through me. I dont
think I had death ray resistance in any case.

I wish I had have taken notes. Ive fought a few Emperor Liches, never died
off one before and never encountered such an attack.

I think I went from ~120 HP to ~70/80 HP with the first attack then down
to -27 HP with the second. Doesnt seem consistant with any recreatable
Player attack.

"You feel an energy bolt slicing through your body" is exactly the
message when you get hit by a death ray and you have resistance. Were
you wielding the Sword of Nonnak or wearing the Ancient Mummy Wrapping?
Both give DR res.

Sword of Nonnak yes, thats what got me then. I was Death Rayed.

Pity, he was looking like he was unstoppable.
