I have a p3-500 (Katmai, the old one) with a Soyo 6vba 133 (not the via 133a) and 128 in Ram. I was thinking of changing to a Duron 750 and an Asus A7V133 (when it go out). But I don`t know if I would improve performance too much if I change to that system, so that is my question, I would get much more preformance with a duron 750 (I probably want to O/C to 900 and higher if I can)than with my P3-500(and a Soyo 6vba 133)???.

Also, every Duron, from 600 to 750 can get to 1.0Ghz???

Well, thats all

Thanks

Duron 600/Asus A7V133 would probably let you run at 800-866 MHz, of course with proper cooling and till 1 GHz with even better cooling.

Duron does offer performance over P-III (I have a Duron 600)

All I have to say is to be careful on the duron overclock. If the motherboard you get supports it put a temperature shut off on it. AMD's can and will fry at high temps. Why overclock though with T-birds being so cheap anyhow? Just food for thought. I am a fan of AMD and I am growing less and less of an intel supporter, at least until they step up to the plate a bit more. But in all honesty I think you may be a bit more happier with the duron. Good luck!

If Pentium3's get real hot they can fry too. Don't worry about all this heat nonsense - if you have a good heatsink/fan properly installed, you'll be fine.

Have you considered keeping the current mobo and buying a new 100MHz FSB Coppermine PIII? I'd go AMD if building from scratch, but you could get much better performance if you bought a PIII 800E 256Kb (Slot 1) rather than a Duron 750 + mobo. You'd need to check your BIOS, of course.

Of course is better changing from a p3-500 to an 800, but the thing is, that AMD cpu are very cheap, and aslo I am thinking of selling my p3 + combo to someone, maybe at $280 (in my country pc sells high), so I will only put 80 dolar from my pocket. So, my question is, I will gain much more preformance with an Duron 700@900 or higher than a P3-500 (and my old motherboard)???
