Hey i was currently thinking about purchasing the new dell xps 17 with the following specs

Intel® Core™ i7-840QM (1.86GHz, 8 threads, turbo boost up to 3.2GHz, 8M cache)
12GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 Memory
256GB Solid State Drive
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 445M 3GB graphics or the GT 435M 2GB

I would mainly use the computer for school work, video editing and games. So i was wondering if this laptop would be suited to run games at fairly high settings. Second is there a significant difference between the 445 and 435 that the 445 is worth getting, and if there is anything i should change or if you could recommend another good laptop.

thanks

The difference between 445M and 435M is noticeable,so go with 445M.
Overall XPS 17 is a good choice and can handle games fine.If you need other suggestions, then let us know your budget.
Oh and BTW,12GB RAM is completely overkill, 4GB suffices for today's games/apps but if you have lots of image/video editing projects opened at the same time, then go with 8GB.

Ok thanks, my price range is about $2000 give and take a bit. I did some more research and found the asus G53JW-A1 with the following specs

Processor: i7-740QM (1.73GHz Quad-Core)
Memory: 6GB DDR3
Hard Drive: 750G 7200RPM
Video Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 460M 1.5G GDDR5 VRAM

It come with a 750g hard drive and i was thinking about upgrading it to an vertex 2 180g SSD card. So what do you think about these specs and the Asus G53JW-A1 as a laptop.
