Tbird color, and thermal paste?

My global win fop32-1 came with a small square of tan.... stuff on it, where the thermal goop should go. What is it? Should I use goop with it?

Also, my new tbird 750 does not have a colored core. It is shiny, and a silverish color. If I turn it, it looks purple, but if I shine a flashlight on it and turn it, it looks green. It was supposed to be a blue core. Any ideas anyone? It does not have a clear color like I see with other processors online.

That small tan square is a heat transfer pad. Not as good at removing heat as the paste. Clean it off good and use the paste. The color of the AMD cpu's results from the final polish stage and the equipment use to do the work. The blue cpu's come from the Dresden plant and the green ones from the Texas fab.

I have a heatsink in witch there is something that looks like duct tape. Is it better to remove it and put thermal paste instead?

All i can give you is the truth. Nothing more.
