Just curious.
If theres only one of each artifact in the entire game, then if you
log on as the 50th player you'll never find any.
If theres one set of artifacts per player, what happens if I kill (or
otherwise find/buy the stuff of) someone who has the same artifact as
me.

Thanks for any info.
Phil.

I think most multiplayer *bands are in fact of the "you'll never find
any" variety. Seems they cry out for an endless-randart system to me. :)

Palladium? Trusted Computing? DRM? Microsoft? Sauron.

I played Mangband extensively for several months.

Many Mangband servers have a "no-squatting" policy, wherein if you
weren't either using or planning on using an artifact, you MUST recycle
it by dropping it in a dungeon and leaving the level. Squatting on
artifacts on many servers is grounds for character deletion.

I found several decent artifacts when I played, so people did seem to
follow the rule.

Here are the rules for TomeNET, another popular multiplayer Angband :
1) One set of static artifacts, large enough to allow the 50th player that
logs on to find some
2) Endless random artifacts, usually better than the static ones
3) Static artifacts cannot be stored in houses (they disappear if dropped)
4) Level requirements enabled (only high level players can pick up static
artifacts from other players)
5) Garbage collector routine (items dropped on the ground disappear after a
short while)
