I have a TH55 and my original memory stick was a 128x2 (Memory Stick).
I recently purchased a 512M Pro and it works just fine.

Most likely, yes.
Note that unless it's a white MagicGate memorystick, you won't be able to
use the ATRAC format for music files on it, though.

Although why anyone would want to is a mystery. As long as you're careful
with the encoding the Clies play MP3 just fine.

Because ATRAC has better sound quality at the same file size, for one?
Or that if you play a 132kHz ATRAC file you use less CPU (and thus battery)
than when playing a comparable 192kHz MP3 file?
If you have the CDs and aren't going to copy the files from the Memory Stick
to somewhere else, ATRAC is a good choice. If you already have MP3s, use
that. Just make sure you don't use MP3pro (which will degrade gracefully to
half the bitrate, thanks to the format and not the player) or VBR (which
won't play at all). Oh, and the CLIEs can't do true mono either, which is
a bummer for those of us who like listening to old jazz recordings.
