Changing premissions problem

well i tried to play gta iv it doesn't work i discover later the problem is a restriction/permission problem so try to change premissions to full control for the whole hard disk but when i try to apply the setting it says access is denied

Please Help Even Though I'm A Complete Tech Newbie

Are you an administrator on your system? You need to be in order to install the game.

Then you should not have to change any permissions after installing in order to play the game properly.

Where did you get the game?

Understood. I would re-download the game. It may have gotten corrupted during the download/install process. Oddly enough, this does happen from time to time.

Also, when is the last time you performed a full virus and malware scan?

sorry for being i guess away for a bit so now all of a sudden it works well atleast the social club login screen so thanks i guess?

UPDATE: when i try to log in It comes up with an error saying "GTA IV FATAL ERROR: XnetStartup failed - please re-boot your system and/or re-install the game 10093" so il update you (once Again) to see if it actually works after restarting

Well It Just Comes up with an error saying "windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. you may not have appropriate permissions to access this item"

Do you know what file location is trying to be accessed?

i think steam tries to access the directory of where the "applications" and data folders are (steamapps/common/grand theft auto iv/ GTA IV)

It looks like it is trying to access a folder that doesn't exist to me. If you installed from an administrator account and are trying to access from the same account, permissions should not be an issue.

I suggest you run a full scan with Malwarebytes (get it at www.malwarebytes.org). Just use the free edition. Delete everything it finds.

Also, run a full scan with your anti-virus program (make sure it is updated).

So did a full scan for both my AV and malwarebytes came up with a few trojans so diffrence in launching the game

Go to think link for some info. I recommend you run the Windows System File Checker now. Windows can repair many issues this way.
