[S][Comp31] YASD of first character to get anywhere

This is oober #23, the first one to get past 500'. Getting
blinder or confused by a novice mage while there's a mob of
novice warriors/cave spider around is a typical death.
This one got killed by giant fleas wich I couldn't get away from.
I managed to kill more than a 1000 fleas, but even with much
improved skills I still couldn't get away. I finally tried some
phase doors, ended up in a large room, got scratched, used up
all my 2 potions of cure serious wounds, got to a corridor
where I died of my wounds.

I tried building up a priest, so I could use "scan object" to
and then try stuff on to ID it, and priests have a satisfy
hunger spell. A few lost souls drained a lot of wisdom.

My STR and CON got reduced by traps, and by trying to disarm
a chest carried by wormtongue wich contained a large diamond :(

I hoped to make some curing potions. The skill didn't deliver more than
1 ID scroll so far. does anyone know where to find essences of life?
You can use Alchemy in the dungeon, but you can't use forging/
weaponsmithing/bowmaking. Is there a reason for this?

    Wow, you were way ahead of me with 42% spellcasting! I'm really
    tempting fate by posting this dump - it's my very first Oober, who's
    managed to survive so far. Before going down I bought the first two
    necro spellbooks, two !CSW and three ?PD (which are 25% off). I've used
    all my PD and all my healing - just beat Lagduf but very nearly died
    (he could have killed me in one more hit).

    Well I had only 10 WIS left, and was in grave danger of not being
    able to spell cast at all. I wouldn't call that way ahead.

    I've made an "unwield torch and rest" macro, and a "wield torch" macro.
    If you use that always when resting, I don't think you will run out of
    light.

    If you try a priest, be really careful with lost souls. Every loss of
    wisdom will make the next lost soul even more dangerous.

    Wizards get haste self and identify in dungeon books. But I would
    definitely say they are the most difficult of the casters to play.
