When is the new AMD ddr 266mhz suppose to hit the market?I'm building a complete new unit using the new iWill KA 266 motherboard & a question I have is if you use the 2100 ddr 128mb do you have to use the new AMD ddr CPU or can you use a regular AMD 1 gig CPU which has a 200mhz? What is the disadvantage of doing this? Or should I just go to the 1600 ddr 256mb & a regular AMD 1 gig, which is a lot cheaper.
I do a lot of graphics. Will the latter set-up still be an advantage over regular SDRAM? I'm a little confused about bus speeds, I know this a bottleneck. Can someone explain all this to me? & what would be your recommendation?

The bus speeds for the AMD processors are 100MHz and now recently 133MHz. Because the processor bus is "double pumped", these are referred to as 200MHz and 266MHz buses, respectively. See Tom's article comparing 100 to 133MHz and you will see that there is a definite advantage to the 133.

As far as the memory is concerned, the PC2100 is 133MHz "double pumped" (I am simplifying here) giving you 266MHz.

I don't know if there is a big price difference between the 100 and 133 components, but I would strongly suggest getting a Athlon 133 with PC2100 memory if you are going to invest in a 266 motherboard.

So what if I don't NEED 170fps. Your point is what? James
