Win installer package

i have win 7 pro, 8gb ram, and home made pc.
in the past 3/4 days the unspecified error message "win installer package could not open". i downloaded open office and it installs till the end of ms virtual ++ redistributable and the error nessage pops up. i have applied several fixes to no avail. i verified that win installer service was on, and the folder is intact. dont know if one of the files is corrupt? i am stumped. where do i go from here?

More about installer package
  1. You probably are trying to install the x86 (32 bit) version rather than the 64 bit version -- Download the 64 bit version HERE and try installing it instead !
  2. try making hirem boot cd or a bootable anti virus scan disk and scan for a virus if it still happens.

i ran mse, and malware bytes in safe mode, and drweb live cd. the caught some adware. im pretty sure my system is clear of any malware or viruses.
    i will update soon.
