Ok might be a dumb question but....
If I fdisc and reformat my drive to get a "clean install" of my OS Win98se will Internet explorer be installed with it? If so which version? I am currently useing IE6 with all the available patches from the Microsoft download site. If an older version is installed with a "clean install" then I would have to go through the whole process of downloading with my dial-up modem again. (takes FOREVER) Is there a way to save IE6 and all the security patches along with my current settings to a CDR for use after?
after the update to 6 you should have a folder in c:\windows (I forgot the folder name) which got the setup files for 6. It's the folder with a txt in it saying that this folder is safe to delete.
For the hack of it I would burn that whole folder and then put it back the same place after format and see. Also if you can (still have the files, no clue, not using any updates myself) then save updates/patches onto cd too.

Obviously, since the text file says the folder is safe to delete, bringing it back to same position in a new Windows installation has no effect in itself. The files in the folder needs to be installed. IIRC the folder also contains a setup program that will do just that.

yeah I forgot to tell him to install it from that folder, but that would be the idea. it also say that when installing 6. next time I'll make sure to spell it out

When you downloaded IE6 it probably put it in the C:\Windows\Temp directory. You could probably save it out of there. BUT I should tell you NOW that IE6 is less stable than IE5 in Win98, so why do you need it?
