Microphone Disabled When Extended out of Headset.

I have the Steelseries Siberia V2 headset and I've come across a very strange event.. When I keep the microphone boom retracted and inside the housing of the headset, they work fine (Except for the fact I can't use it when it's hidden next to my ear, not my mouth). Though when I pull it out and try to use it, it seems to simply be disabled or muted. Pulling it halfway and just playing with lengths just gives me static when I try to talk.

Is it just dead? I've had it for over 2 years now..

Sounds like a bad connection, if you can take it apart at all, check the wires. If not, replace it.
