Thanks for all the advice on skill progression from the earlier thread.
It's enabled me to get my first char past my first hard quest.
I've been taking hard quests all the way down, and I just got a quest for
7 Stormcrows on dlvl 19. What am I getting myself into? What do I need
to prepare for them?

A lot more comments down in skills section

[Skills]
Currently working on melee/burglary/forging. Haven't used forging yet.
I'd love to invest in swords/clubs/joust, but I don't have the points
to spare, and it costs more to move them 1% as it does to
move my wrestling 1% (I thought there would be a point where moving
them would be cheaper than moving raised scores).

I just finished a mithril coin quest w/multiple orc uniques tossed in,
so I have about 2k xp to spend. Where should I spend them to prepare
for stormcrows?

Throwing : 35%
Wrestling : 33%
Karate : 33%

raising both karate and wrestling for stat points. when do I stop raising
one of them?

Wizardry : 10%
Holy Alliance : 10%
Nature Lore : 10%

these trail by quite a bit, but i want to get the special detect abilities
eventually.

Magical Device : 21%
hard to get enuff skill experience to keep this at base cost.

Burglary : 25%
traps are nice. using boulders now. I understand I should move towards
heavy branded melee weapons?
Perception : 26%
Stealth : 22%
actively raising these.
Disarming : 19%
Dodging : 6%
these are raised from burglary only.
Spell Resistance : 33%

Armor Forging : 28%
Alchemy : 16%
Magical Infusion : 15%
been trying to raise all three, but they're expensive.

Their melee attacks are pretty weak and their hitpoints low. However they
have a couple of distance attacks and can knock you around. A way to
either attack them from a distance would be nice, or a way to detect them
and then burrow into a wall on an angle trap and try to get them to come at
you.

You get the stat bonuses at 40 I think for both. Both of them however have
high level abilities which are useful for a heavy melee class.

This should go a lot of hurt to the crows, if you had a decent wand it would
be trivial to kill them.

> 2 chunks of Copper

Have you tried forging yet? Even though your skills are low you
should be able to make better armor than what you are wearing on head and
body.

Then again at 60 and maybe again at 80 or 85.

There is no reason to get into LOS with them. Set a couple of traps
in a corridor and run off through a room to the next corridor.

I think you should carefully consider character development.

You are quite close to the point where you can take Oath of Iron. (You
can take it when you have Wrestling/Karate at 45). Taking it means you
can never cast spells, and magic devices is then capped at 50. On the
other hand you have burglary at 25 and to raise it past 30 you must join
Burglar's Guild. Joining Burglar's guild would give you +2 to DEX.

You should choose quite soon... Burglar's Guild or Oath of Iron?

Weapons skills are more expensive than martial arts. You need to invest
in weapons at some stage, as ghosts are not harmed by martial arts and
if they stay in walls you must melee them.

Get both to 40 for stat boosts. Next boost is at 60 so after 40 you can
ignore one for a while, but eventually you want that boost. If you go
for Oath of Iron, take one of these to 45.

If you have extra XP, get Nature Lore to 25 and you can detect stormcrows.

Carry Wands of Stinking cloud and kill weaklings with them.
Or use wand/rod of light in a corridor filled with orcs.

Heavy weapons are better than boulders. You can also use magic devices.
Area effects like Stinking Cloud are nice against groups running through
the trap. You can join the Guild now, if you feel like it.
