I am looking at making an angband Varient.
I am on windows xp and i am wondering which version of Angband should i
download?
And anyway does it matter which one i get?

That depends on what you intend your variant to be. The most commonly
played variants were all started with aims in mind; thinking about your
aims may well lead you to which variant you should base yours on.
Having said that, I agree with Timo that vanilla is a good place to
start looking. You should start in any case by visiting
www.thangorodrim.net (if you haven't already).
