*SOLVED* Windows 7 BSOD on shutdown caused by Samsung DVD SH-222BB

I was getting BSOD and hangs on shutdown on Windows 7 64 Ultimate.

Extract of BSOD as below:

With some investigation I discovered my Samsung DVD SH-222BB was not powering down on shutdown and therefore causing the hangs and BSOD.

I updated the drive to the latest firmware here: and it solved the hanging.
