Advice needed on PII-450 & PIII-850

Just upgraded my ABIT BH6/PII-450 to a PIII-850 SLOT-1 100MHZ COPPERMINE.

Its a retail-box CPU with factory crapper heat-sink. I always use monster heat sinks from computernerd, but this time I didnt feel like fooling with a giant heat sink.

Can I OC my PIII-850 on my BH6, with factory heat-sink? Can you give me a little background on the PIII-850 as far as over-clocking?

I have oc'ed my PII-450 to 504MHZ without any problems, never saw a difference though, I would like to run this new PIII-850 at 900MHZ if possible.

I would need settings also, thanx again.

BTW IS THERE ANYWAY POSSIBLE TO RUN MY OLD PII-450 CHIP ON MY OLDER ABIT LX6 MOTHERBOARD IF I USE PC100 RAM?

You are in luck. I have a ABIT LX6 mobo and it is the best LX mobo about. I run my PII 233@300(3*100) on it using PC100. The only problem you may encounter is that the multiplier for your CPU is 4.5 so you may need to update the BIOS if your motherboard doesn't support that multiplier speed. The latest BIOS supports the Celeron 466Mhz CPU which has a multiplier of 7 so you should be fine running your PII 450. Be sure to set the fsb to 100Mhz and you are OK. My only problem with the LX6 is that it doesn't support double sided DIMMs (or at least not the 128MB of double sided PC100 I bought) which is why my next board was the BX6rev2

The LX6 only recognised the 128MB dimm as 64MB. The BX6 could see it all. Good luck

I'm sure you will manage more than that. Just make sure it's not getting too hot.

I belive the reason you couldn't overclock the PII450 more is the ram and that if you are using PC133 for the 850 the RAM won't be the limiting factor as I doubt a PII850 would hit 1133!
