I need to know how many blows per round my character will get at the end of stat
gain, with a 40 lb Mace of Disruption, being a human warrior(+5 str, + 2 dex
from class bonus). Assume no additional modifiers to str and dex for the
moment.

so that's a warrior with 18/150 str and 18/120 dex with a 40 lb weapon.

MoD is so heavy, that you'll get only 5 blows at max, while 6 is max.
Even 18/220 or better STR wont help.

True, but for the moment it's looks like it's going to be my best option once I
finish stat gain. The hit dice are much higher than anything else I've got.
More than enough to make up for not having that 6th blow.

Yes, usually MoD's are good weapons, one of my winners beated Morgy with
randart MoD, and that MoD didn't even have slay evil-flag. but to_dam
was +31, so that was enough.

Hi jediknight,

Assuming that the attack spoilers on thangorodrim.net are accurate and
that I interpret them right:

1. Use strength to find ASB. STR 18/150 ==> ASB 170.
2. Divide ASB by weapon weight ==> 170 / 40 = 4.25
3. Mulitply by WSM (0.5 for fighter) ==> 4.25 * 0.5 = 2.125
4. Round down to integer to find SWI: 2.125 ==> 2
5. Use SWI + dexterity to find number of blows:
SWI 2 + DEX 18/120 ==> 4 blows.
6. Adjust for maximum (6 for warrior - no adjustment)
7. Add extra blows granted by weapon (none, I assume).

So that means that you'll get 4 blows. Unless my math was wrong. <g>

Thanks. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter anymore. This character met an
untimely demise because I was stupid.

Went down a flight of stairs, saw an Ogre chieftain with escorts in the same
room as me. My plan all along was to immediately recall back after taking the
stairs, so I cast recall, and wait until they start to wake up, then go from
there.

They weren't coming at me all that fast, so I tried to stick it out, but I
wasn't watching the hit points, and they were hitting harder than I figured,
so...

I think I really need to turn on the low hit point warning. This guy was coming
along nicely too, his luck was running weird though. Had difficulty finding
basic stuff, but had two ESP items before 900', then found the mace on 1400'

Hi jediknight,

Isn't that always the reason for death in Angband? Well, either that or
ignorance - and only newbies can claim ignorance.

>I think I really need to turn on the low hit point warning.

Good idea. I usually set it to 50%. Too early in many cases, I'll have
to admit that, but at least I can be sure to get an extra warning before
dropping below the instadeath HP threshold.

With two ESP items before 900', you are doomed. Such are the ways of the
RNG.
