Hi all,

Quickband v1.05 is now available for download at
http://www.guildgame.com/quickband.

Windows source and binaries available (and porting to any non-Windows
platform on which Vanilla Angband runs should be straightforward).

For those not familiar with the game, it's a variant of NPPAngband,
which in turn is a popular variant of Vanilla Angband. Quickband is
designed to be a much shorter game, taking just a few hours to
complete: the dungeon is only 12 levels deep. The objective is to
defeat Saruman of Many Colors, who may be found lurking on DL12.

This is possibly the last Quickband release, unless any more major bugs
turn up. I still have a to-do list of stuff that would be neat to
change or include, but I'd rather like to get back to Guild and my
other projects, so...

Changes in v1.05:
- High Dex now increases speed slightly
- Pits and vaults more common in DLs 1-10
- Removed potions of *enlightenment*, Life, and Death, items giving
Destruction and Banishment, and scrolls of *Acquirement*
- Removed destruction/genocide spells
- Artifacts now generated less often (but should often be replaced by
excellent items)
- Mildly nerfed the Glaive of Pain, the Boots of Thror, the Plate mail
of Celeborn, and Cubragol
- Amulets of Wisdom and Charisma are now never more than +4
- Black market now contains less high level items
- Drain-XP artifacts now instead slow down regeneration (a lot)
- Races mildly rebalanced
- Saruman has more mana than before
- Saruman's melee attacks do less damage but have other unpleasant
effects
- Saruman can no longer cast 'create traps', but gets 'summon unique'
instead :)
- Lurtz's melee attacks pack more of a punch
- Lurtz and Saruman have somewhat smaller drops
- Fixed the version string (was 0.1.0)
- Added a warning that helpfiles have not been altered since NPP
- Bugfix: priest penalty with bows/crossbows is now correctly triggered
by launcher, not ammo
- Bugfix: priest penalty with bows/crossbows goes away when you unwield
the launcher
- Bugfix: Paurannon now works properly

To do for future hypothetical releases:
- Revamp the rogue class a bit (some new spells and some tweaks with
light weapon?)
- Add a 'Bard' class (something like Zangband?)
- More artifacts (class or race beneficial? tradeoffs - advantages/
disadvantages? mage staffs? low level weapons?)
- Give Saruman a specific drop (the Palantir?)

ENjoy,
A.

I just ran a half orc paladin down to DL9, with small levels and autoscum. I
have seen one minor vault. However there is something which may or may not
be a bug.

I was fighting a chaos drake and in two chaos breaths went from Cl2 to
Cl1. The first was from 25 -> 17, and then right down to 1. I can't remember
drain exp being this bad in vanilla.

> - Drain-XP artifacts now instead slow down regeneration (a lot)

This makes no difference on game play unless they are perm-cursed.

Hmm. I haven;t changed xp drain: the only thing I changed is the XP
breaks for levels. May have to look into this if it becomes a problem.

Some are. Point taken, though.

Zangband doesn't have bards, at least hasn't had for the five last
years. EyAngband does, as does ToME.

Otto Martin - not that I'd mind someone adding that to Z... =)

Possibly a bug - the alchemy store is still offering the Increase Stat
service. So stat gain is still possible. Dissapointingly, there isnt a
speed boost between DEX 18/60 and 18/70, so I'll just have to put up
with +6 for the time being. (The other 2 come from Holcolleth. The RNG
is being weird today. Some decent artifacts, but can I find free
action? Can I hell. No decent arrows, either. And as for ego launchers?
When I played a priest, couldnt move for them, with a ranger I saw an
Xbow with small plusses - once)

Cool, isn't it?

I just had my HE mage killed by the big A - didn't find enough CON
items, and chose RPois from my weapon instead of Barukkheled for +3
CON. Bad Idea.

Dump is at http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=4664

OOPS

Guess I will be doing another release after all!

(IMO the proliferation of unsigned types and short ints is one of the
worst aspects of the Angcode)

Good. How many hours (real time)?

Services are turned off by default, but I suppose you can turn them
back on and get Increase Stat. I'll remove this.

Hi all,

Revised Quickband v1.05 at guildgame.com/quickband.

Changelist:

-Lurtz has an extra melee attack
-Lurtz is immune to fear
-Bugfix: Dunedain and High Elves now have correct XP thresholds
-Bugfix: Many store services, including increase stats, are not
available even if you turn store services back on

Not a big change as you see...

On an interesting sidenote I tried 1.05 to see if I could run a winner in
under 50k turns. I got slaughtered 4 times in a row, I reached mid game
level (what I thought was mid game anyway) fast with small levels on, maybe
10k turns, and was unable to make any progress, and just ended up unable to
kill anything and just teleporting or healing until I was insta killed.

I had been turning on new options and finally realized what was going on. I
turned on display in feet and for some reason thought levels were 100 ft
apart so I was running guys down to DL8-10 right from the start and trying
to level. The last guy ran into Lurtz at CL15 with no ego items and was
mangled. It was pretty funny in retrospect.
