I'm needing some help to find information for an Honours coursework piece I've to do on comparing the Alpha 21264 and Pentium processors. I've been through the respective web sites but I'm wondering if anyone knew of any other sources of information?
Thanks
Im pretty sure that Compaq bought out DEC a few years back and that Compaqs website has some information on old dec alpha stations. I dont know if they have the type of info you need or not, but it might be worth checking out.
But then I've got a DEC Alpha (not sure on chip number) 700MHz system on my desk here at work.
The company forced me to use it for several months because we wanted to write software that was Alpha compatible.
And all I can say is this system is the biggest piece of junk I've had the displeasure of using. It has to EMULATE x86 instructions. And even then it crashes programs over and over and over again. I couldn't even run VB6.0 even AFTER installing the MS Visual Studio Alpha patches/SPs.
So I haven't been impressed by Alpha chip systems. Unless the new ones have x86 compatability, I'll never find a use for them personally.
Maybe they're fast. Maybe some people have a use for them. Not me though.
