I am trying to install a Memory Card Reader in my Optiplex GX520 MoBo but there are not any 10 Pin USB pins to plug into. I thought of making a Standard USB Cable out of the ribbon cable leading from the Mem Card Reader. Will this work? I can then get a PCI USB Card to plug into. Any other ideas?? Thank you

Hex,

I also have an Optiplex GX520 and had the same issue. Rather than making your own cable, why not buy a PCI USB card that has a USB pin header on the card? This would provide you two additional external USB ports, plus a plug in on the card itself for an internal reader without the mess of trying to match correct wires. Here is a link to the PCI card I'm referring to, and the second link is to all the various internal card readers.

Hope this helps,

BTW, Hex, be sure to get the latest drivers, as sometimes the card will not work properly without them (however, XP should pick it up with no issues, no drivers needed).
