I see that following a firmware and software upgrade the NM-700 supports
WPA. My understanding is that WPA is more secure but slower than WEP...
However, I was trying to get my 720 to talk to the 700 base station using
WPA but could not... the WPA settings on the 720 has ohter options such as
WEP, AES etc... Don't know which to select for use with the 700 base
station.

Are these two products compatable in an WPA mode?

There are several different types of WPA. The MN-700 only supports one
of them because the other was designed for home users & the other type
of WPA was designed for businesses. I forget more information on this,
but Barb wrote about it in one of her columns in the expert zone.

Now I remember after just glancing at her article on WPA the MN-700 uses
a Pre Shared Key or PSK for WPA.

Sorry the one the MN-700 was designed for home users it is WPA-AES that
was designed for businesses. Sorry about any confusion that may have
created.

It should have read as the following.

The MN-700 only supports one of them because the MN-700 was designed for
home users & the other type of WPA (WPA-AES) was designed for businesses.

Actually, WPA-PSK (or WPA Personal) has two varieties, TKIP which is
software based and AES which is hardware based. Both are applicable to
residential home networks. WPA2 (the upcoming standard) will use AES.

WPA is for business with external authentication servers (such as radius).

The MN-700 supports WPA-PSK TKIP only. The clients - such as the MN-720
should support both TKIP and AES. The MN-700 will *not* be upgradeable to
AES capable.

THanks for the clarification. I didn't fully understand WPA anyway.
