Visa document to win 7

Hello,
I purchased a new p/c with windows 7 on it, one of my vista documents now has a mark up area on it. I cannot remove this and type on the entire page. How can I resore my document to it's original format?

What program did you use to create the vista documents? Look at the file extension, for example if it is .doc it was created using an older version of Word, if it is .docx it was created with Word 2007 or 2010. If it has a different file extension you can do a Google search to see what program was used to create it.
