Duron Vs TBird

I've been playing around with both a 700 Duron and Tbird. As of now I have the Tbird @ 800, I could go higher but I want to keep the heat down, and I can get the Duron up to around 900 without much effort. I'm using the Bird in my work/gamestation and the Duron in my home server (file and internet sharing) Now my question is, at what point does the Duron catch the Tbird in speed? IE, can the 900 Duron equal that speed of an 800 Tbird?...I know they are structure somewhat differently but is there an easy way to compare them? I ask this because the Duron 850 is approximately the same cost as a Tbird 800....so it got me to thinking.
Any opinions?

Good question. Unlike the Celeron/P3 there is not too much difference between the Duron and T-Bird. I have seen many benchmarks that show the Duron in games around 2-4 speed grades slower than the T-Bird. So like a 900 Duron is about equal to a 800mhz T-Bird. The gap widens as the Mhz increases though.

here are some good benchmarks.

Very good one from last June.

I think maybe you transposed the two models. Kinda confusing, Did you mean that the 900 MHZ Duron is about equal to a 800 MHZ Tbird?

At this link you will see a good head-to-head Duron to Athlon Comparison.

http://www.tech-report.com/reviews/2000q4/athlon-vs-duron/

It shows that an 800 mhz Athlon catches a 1000 mhz Duron.

Not shown in that article is that the Duron appears to run out of steam above 1000 mhz due to it's small cache. (I believe I read this here at Tomshardware). If true a Duron (at any speed) would be hard pressed to perform as well as Athlon at 900 mhz or higher.

Also, things may have changed now that 133 mhz FSB mobo's are available.

Thanks guys, that was a great review. So I guess that answers it....sorta. To match my Tbird@805 i'm gunna have to OC my poor unsuspecting Duron to 950+ :) Well itll be fun. Thanks all
