ok, this is the ultimate in push advertising and it has me highly ticked off, it seems that at random times a pop up message that seems to be based out of the windows messanger system <gg microsoft> Does anyone know how to turn this annoying "feature" of windows xp off? I would greatly appreciate any help w/this issue, ty

If you go into the Services in your XP box using Manage, Services/applications, Services you will see a service called Messenger. You can shut this service off, It is in no way related to the Msn Messenger and you shouldn't get these wonderful messages anymore. This was on a recent Tech Tv program Called TheScreenSavers. This service is used by microsoft to notify you of some things you NEED and is a port for Spam that is open by default on any installation.

right click "administrative Templates" and click add remove templates. you will then have a dialg box with a list of templates. Click Add and this should open the Windows\system32\inf folder and list a number of .ADM files. From the list add in Conf.adm and System.adm. Close the Add/Remove temples box and you should now have the requied options
