What is the real safe operating temperature of a CPU ?

I have an Athlon TB 1.2Ghz, according to Asus Probe, my CPU is always running between 60 to 68 degress celcius. Is this a safe range.

I am currenly using the Thermaltake Chrome Orb Socket A fan.

Thanks

you're just about borderline on that one. the t-birds can operate up to 90C(umm.. sumptin wrong if your this hot) I would recommend running under 60C. Use thermal paste(artic silver), install some extra case fans, or decrease the ambient temperature(crank up yer A/C!)

:tongue: I LOVE INTEL. It tastes like chicken

Well, I dont have a 1.2 Gig Athlon, but I do have a 900, and maybe my numbers might be interesting:

I have my 900 Athlon with a Super Orb heat sink and Radio Shack Thermal Heat Sink Compound sandwiched between, and heres my measurements (according to Motherboard Monitor):

Right out of sleep mode: 88F -> 31C
While surfing the internet: 98F -> 37C
Right after exiting a 3D game: 110F -> 43F

I'm pretty happy with my cooling setup, and although mines not a 1.2GHz, I cant imagine the 1.2 being that much hotter.
