Compound question...

So, I finally got a fan to replace the broken one that came with my retail box. This is a vantec, and comes with a packet of white thermal compound. There is still some pink residue on the processor from the thermal compound that was one the original heatsink. Do I need to remove this before I install the new heatsink and fan? If so, how would I do that?

I would say yes you should remove any excess compound left behind from the old heatsink. How to remove it? If it's a paste just wipe with a very clean dry cloth of some sort, if it's a hard compund I'd have no idea. I've never removed hard compund before so I would not to to give a suggestion I have not tried myself. Sorry of the half answer.

Free us from these chains, let us slip these bonds and touch the sky with our imagination.

Yeah, it appears to be hard compound...not coming off when I wipe it.
