Hello,

Just finished setting up a new i5-3570k and ASROCK Z77 machine with Windows 7. Everything seemed to work fine with default windows drivers. However, when I tried installing device drivers from the CD that came with the MB and rebooted the box, I got BSOD with 0x7B error.

Web lookup suggests that 0x7B is failed to read Boot device error. Given that the fresh install of Windows was able to boot properly suggests that the drive is functioning properly, the problem could be with device drivers.

There is also some talk about setting the HDD in AHCI vs IDE mode which is beyond me.

Can someone suggest what could be going wrong and what should I be checking?

OK, so I downloaded the latest drivers from ASROCK website and updated my windows with all the new patches. The problem still does not go away.

As soon as I install ASMedia SATA 3 Driver and reboot I get BSOD.
