Laptops for animation work

Hi I am a student planning to join an Animation program and looking for an ideal laptop for softwares like Maya, Z brush, Shake etc. Is the Mac a better deal than PCs for graphics work? I looked into a 15" Macbook Pro which seemed ideal but my budget is closer to the 1000-1200 range. Plz help..
