I just purchased the Navman 4460 to use with my Palm T-3. Although
everyone seems to complain about the setup I had no problems. I just took
it very slow and followed the instuctions EXACTLY. The directions aren't
the clearest and there is absolutely no documentation regarding the
hardware. It doesn't tell you what it comes with, how to put it together,
install the batteries or offer suggestions re placement or use.
That being said, I have two questions:
1) Does anyone know what type of 12v adapter plug is needed to power the
GPS module? I want to save the car cord it came with and buy another plug
to hard wire it into my car's electrical system. I contacted Navman and
they said they sell an adapter for $24.95 + shipping but they "have no
specs" on it. I think that's a bit much for a $4.00 Radio Shack item.
2) Are there any advantages to using an external antenna if I appear to get
adequate reception directly from the GPS unit? The only thing I can come
up with at this time is the ability to hide the GPS module from view by not
having it show through the window.
