Ok, so not really a supercomputer. But almost!

I am looking for the absolute BEST computer available (<b>NOT</b> P4!) for my company, and I think I have found it. It is a mix between Gaming/workstation/ocing. Basically for rich people (there are quite a bit around here). Noted, I will not be able to build this system for about 3 months or so due to the availability of parts. Here are the specs:

AMD Thunderbird 1.2GHz 266MHz FSB cpu
ASUS A7M266 motherboard
256MB PC2100 DDR RAM memory (or 384?)
GeForce3 64MB DDR video card
SB Live! Platinum 5.1 sound card
Klipsch ProMedia 4.2 speakers
Tornado 3005 Full Tower case with 431watt power supply
Sony 21" Trinitron monitor
Plextor 16/10/40 CD-RW drive
Pioneer 16x slot DVD-ROM drive
IBM 75GB ATA100 Deskstar Hard drive (possibly 2x in RAID 0?)
Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro
Microsoft IntelliMouse explorer

It will be their choice of scanner/printer combo.

Want the Ultimate System? Why not go for this?

Sony GDM-FW900 24" Widescreen Monitor
1.3/1.33 Ghz Athlon
1GB DDR SDRAM
GeForce3 128MB
Live! Platinum 5.1
Sony STR-V555ES Surround Amplifier
5 Very Expensive Speakers
Even more Expensive Audio Cabeling (£200 per meter should do it!)
...

hold on. this systems getting too expensive!

well, once you get up to 21" you won't really tell the differnce between that and 24", also 1GB DDR RAM wouldn't do much better than 384 (for about 204230982x the price) and those are the best computer speakers available. also the 128MB GF3 won't be available for awhile. and I was also going to go with 1.33GHz TBIrd but i dont know when it will be available.

Buy the time you get that, VIA will have come out will have come out with their new KT266 chipset which is supposed to be much better than the current AMD 761 or ALi Magik 1 chipsets. So change your mobo to one with the KT266 chipset, preferably one from Asus because they make the best mobo's in my opinion.

The 1300Mhz Tbird is out (or at least it is in Australia) and the higher Mhz versions are right on it's heels. Depending on how many months you're willing to wait, i'd go with basically all the stuff you said... Maybe a plasma screen, 15000RPM Atlas 2k's and definately the new VIA chipset... very nice...

<font color=blue> Good luck </font color=blue>

AMD Tbird 1.1Ghz & SuperORB
Asus A7V
128MB PC133 SDRAM
Winfast GeForce2 MX

I am afriad the new VIA chipset will be incompatility problems galore, like most of their chipsets. The AMD chipset may not perform as well but i will definately be more stable.

With AMD's planned NUMA bus, dual CPU's will supposedly scale better than the GTL+ bus by being able to double-utilize the memory bus (GTL+ makes all CPUs share the equivalent bandwidth of one CPU). AMD's taken their time getting a dual CPU board out, but AMD multi-CPU potential is far, far beyond that of P3 ;)

And the P4 (which still isn't available in dual-CPU)? Well, jesus, it needs all the bandwidth it's got just for one CPU. Making two CPU's share the i850's bandwidth will make the P4 look downright sissy. They'd better not be using a GTL+ derivative.

Maybe Intel will revise the P4 core; maybe all the idiotic bottlenecks they carved into the silicon will get ironed out. They'd better, if they expect to make any headway with their new baby...

AAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA, WTF dude. AMD does not even have SMP system out yet and you spout of the stupidest crap for other lemmings to repeat later is a crime.
You should be beaten senseless.

Probably just a RAID0. I might scrap the A7M266 and go with the MSI board or maybe something else. Dunno yet, half of these parts aint even available yet

Well if your spending that much, why not scsi raid? Better then IDE, but you pay out the A$$ for it.

If its tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

SCSI isn't really that much better than IDE, especially when you consider the price differences.

if server you cant go wrong with 64 alphas and 32 Gigs of ram... but this is a gaming/workstation/ocing if i remember, I doubt i do, THC isnt doing me much good, hehe, anyway as workstation dual p3 1000 would do yet i would go for the 1.3 TBird 256 DDR should be fine (though 2 gigs of sdr for the same price, hmm, it IS a workstation right? 2 lacie electron 22 blues (best under 24 inch monitors from my point of view) and hook them up to a quadro 2 (or a gf3 if it is out with dual monitor support within 3 months) cant go wrong with a 75 gig ATA100 drive, though id prefer 2 46 gigers in raid, what else, yeah speakers, dont bother getting computer speakers, go for some very nice (yet slightly expensive) hi-fi speakers, you know the unbelievably clear ones about 4 or 5 feet high volume aint too shabby eitheranyway have fun...

where did all my money go, ahh... [-peep-], forgot that i lived in london
